COMMUNIQUE – Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security

Compensation to Planters under the Crop Loss Compensation Scheme

Following the torrential rain recorded in the last 24 hours whereby several localities of the south and south eastern regions of Mauritius have been affected, the farming community is being informed that officers of the Agricultural Services of the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security, the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) and the Small Farmers Welfare Fund would effect visits in the fields of planters covered under the Crop Loss Compensation Scheme (CLCS) to carry out an assessment of the loss incurred.

Planters who have adhered to the Crop Loss Compensation Scheme would be compensated based on the extent of loss incurred and in line with agreed conditions.

Planters in the affected regions will also be provided with technical assistance through the Extension Services of the FAREI for the sanitisation of their fields prior to starting new plantations. They may contact FAREI Extension Officers of their respective regions for additional information as from Monday 19 April 2021.
